Badminton Asia Joins in Mourning of King Bhumibol's Passing
The recent passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the King of Thailand, brought shock not only to the nation of Thailand but also amongst the badminton fraternity. In Thailand, King Bhumibol Adulyadej played a significant and inspirational role in the success of its players, where His Majesty was the Royal Patron of Badminton Association of Thailand (BAT). Therefore, the members of Badminton Asia are also deeply saddened by the passing of His Majesty and we join in the mourning of the passing of His Majesty. We also like to express our pledge to unite in honouring the exemplary life of a great King who we appreciated the fact that His Majesty’s had always displayed the quality of inspiring leadership and also the pursuit of excellence.
A multitalented figure in various field such as art, literature and music, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej is also an avid sportsman himself. His Majesty played Badminton and he was a pillar of strength for the development of badminton in Thailand. His contribution not only limited within the sphere of Thailand but also in the international arena as well. For many years, his efforts, determination and motivation in the sport of badminton earned him the respect and honour from the international badminton community for more than half century. His Majesty is indeed a giant figure in the Badminton community all around world.
“His leadership and patronage has indeed inspired many young talents to emerge from Thailand. That itself is a shining example of His Majesty’s contribution towards badminton in Thailand and also to the world.” said Mr.Anton Subowo, President of Badminton Asia, as he conveys his message of condolence.
Mr.Subowo also said, “On behalf of Badminton Asia, I would also offer our condolences to the government of Thailand, Badminton Association of Thailand and the people of Thailand during this time of mourning. Badminton Asia joins in honouring His Majesty’s memory.”
