This year's Pembangunan Jaya Raya Badminton Asia Junior (Under-19) Championships in Jakarta will also be an important stop for aspiring badminton Umpires and Referees.

Badminton Asia, in its bid to enlarge its pool of umpires and referees in the shuttle sport, have lined up two courses for both categories.

A total of 10 candidates will attend the Badminton Asia Referees Accreditation Course in the Indonesian city from July 19-24.

Once they pass the course the Theory examination the successful candidates will be graded as Badminton Asia accredited referee (probation).

Badminton Asia will then nominate the successful candidates to one of the Level Four tournaments for their practical assessment. This means they will have to pass both, (Theory and Practical) at different times.

This course has attracted 10 candidates from Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bahrain, India, China and Chinese Taipei.

Meanwhile, 12 candidates - from Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, India, Bahrain, Maldives, Jordan, Nepal, Bangladesh and the Philippines - will attend the Badminton Asia's Umpires Accreditation Course which will be held from July 19-31.

Aspiring umpires will have to pass both - Theory and Practical - at the same time during the championships. The successful ones will be graded as Badminton Asia's accredited umpire.
The course conductors-cum-assessors in Jakarta are Mr. Sudhakar Vemuri from India, Mr. Steve Chang (Hong Kong) and Mr Teo Kian Joo from Malaysia.

The Pembagunan Jayaraya Badminton Asia Junior Championships will be held at the Jayaraya Sports Hall Training Center Tangerang Selatan, Jakarta from July 22-30.
