Powered by their cream of future stars, including reigning world junior women's singles champion Chen Yufei, China powered their way to a 5-0 win over Hong Kong in their opening Group A match in the Robot Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on Tuesday.

The mighty Chinese, the top seeds in the inaugural meet , showed no mercy by winning the first four points - from the medn's doubles, women's and men's singles and the women's doubles without dropping a set.

China, however, dropped a set in the mixed doubles and Li Yunhui-Zhang Nan were forced to come back from a set down for a 16-21, 21-16, 21-11 win over Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Seut after a 46 minute battle.

China started the day with Li Junhui-Liu Yuchen needing only 26 minutes in their 21-16, 21-14 victory over Law Cheuk Him-Reginald Lee Chun Hei in the men's doubles.

From there on it was plain sailing for the Chinese as Yufei ripped through a 21-11, 21-18 win over Yip Pui Yin in the women's singles before Qiao Bin stopped Vincent Wong Wing Ki 21-12, 21-12 in the men's singles.

The women's doubles saw Chen-Qingchen-Jia Yifan hardly stretched by Ng Tsz Yau-Yeung Nga Ting in their 21-13, 21-18 win in 34 minutes.
Thailand broke the hearts of the home supporters with a 5-0 whitewash of Vietnam in a Group C match played to a packed stadium on Tuesday.

The defeat of Vietnam's golden man of badminton Ngueyn Tien Minh,33, in the men's singles by Thai youngster Suppanyu Avhingsanon was painful.

The lanky Thai shrugged off Tien Minh's early resistance in the first set and sailed through for a 24-22, 21-9 win in 35 minutes. With Tien Minh's defeat it was 3-0 for Thailand after they won the men's doubles and women's singles in the first two matches.

Vietnam expected a fight in the women's singles through Vu Thi Trang but the home favourite slumped to a 15-21, 18-21 defeat to Thailand's Busanan Ongbamrungphan .
