Good day for Thais in SCG Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2016

Thailand's Kantaphon Wangcharoen eased into the third round in the boys' singles to give the home supporters plenty to cheer in the SCG Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2016 on Wednesday.


After a first round bye the Thai top seed strolled past Mongolia's Tuguldur Boldbaatar in only 18 minutes in the second round.


In Thursday's third round Kantaphon will face Vietnam's Huy Dang Quang. The Vietnamese was taken the distance in his 21-10, 21-23, 21-18 win over Sri Lanka's Kasun Amarasena in the 44-minutes match.


There was more cheer for the Thai's when Korakrit Laotrakul outplayed another Vietnamese opponent Nguyen Duc Giang 21-4, 21-10 in 34 minutes.


The sixth seeded Korakrit will next face Taiwan's Liang Hua Chun - 21-10, 21-2 winner over Macau's Ao Fei Long in the second round.


Fifth seed Panchaarapol Nipomram made it a memorable day for the homesters with a 21-14, 21-11 win over Pakistan's Shameer Iftikhar who was making his debut in the Asian junior meet.


Third seed Koki Watanabe smashed Sri Lanka's Sewmina Sewmina Guantilleke 21-4, 21-6 to march into the third round to face Hong Kong's Chan Yin Chak.


Yin Chak had a free ride into the third round without lifting his racquet when he got a walkover from Frell Keyann Gabuelo of the Philippines in the second round after getting a bye in the first round.


Malaysia's hope Lee Zii Jia kept his country's hopes with an easy 21-7, 21-8 win over Kazakhstan's Ikramzhan Yuldastiev. The fourth seeded Malaysian will face Macau's Lam Hou Kim in the third round.


Hou Kim put paid to Pakistan's Zohaib Khan Khalil's - a beaten quarter-finalist last year - with a 21-15, 21-15 win.


Also through to the third round is Taiwan's seventh seeded Lee Chia Hao - 21-10, 21-16 winner over Iran's Amir Jabbari, Chia Hao's third round opponent is India's M.Kanishq who received a walkover from Mongolia's Gunzoriq Enkhjargat of Mongolia.


Malaysia's Leong Jan Hao gave himself a 17th birthday present on Wednesday when the 14th made his Asian Junior debut with a 21-12, 21-8 win over Macau's Pang Fong Pui in the second round. Jan Hao is the Malaysian junior champion.
