How a circular economy can drive greater sustainability in construction

The construction industry accounts for approximately 60 per cent of UK material use and a third of all waste.

By maximising total material resource efficiency and moving beyond the 3R’s of reduce, reuse and recycle, introducing sustainable materials and the concept of a circular economy in construction is certainly achievable.

Construction News and Westgate held a webinar on 3 February 11am to discuss perspectives from across the industry and dig deeper into the sustainability of construction products.

The experts discussed topics including:

  • Exploring circular business models to achieve waste reduction, cost effectiveness and sustainability goals
  • Reviewing the business case for procuring reused or recycled construction components
  • The need for contractors to look beyond the greenwashing of construction products when choosing sustainable solutions
