India are back in the running for a place in the Sudirman Cup quarter-finals after a stunning 4-1 win over fifth seeds Indonesia in a Group 1D match at the Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium in Gold Coast, Australia on Tuesday.

It was a much needed win for India to stay in the hunt after losing 4-1 to Denmark in their opening match on Sunday. However, Wednesday's Indonesia - Denmark match will decide the top two places in the group for a place in the knockout stage.

Indonesia manager Susi Susanti said the mixed doubles and the women's doubles were a "let down" although world No 1 Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo won the men's doubles match against Indian newcomers Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty 21-9, 21-17 for the team's only point.

India, ranked No 9, started on the right footing when Satwiksairaj-Ashwini Ponnappa overcame Tontowi Ahmad-Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja 22-20, 17-21, 21-19 in he mixed doubles which lasted 66 minutes.

Singapore Open finalist K. Srikanth (ranked No 26) made it 2-0 for India with a 21-15, 21-16 win over Indonesian youngster Jonatan Christie (No 28) in the men's singles.

Indonesia reduced the deficit in the men's doubles but the fired up Indians were unstoppable in their do or die mission with world No 4 P.V. Sindhu restoring a two point advantage for an unassailable 3-1.

The 22-year-old Rio Olympics silver medallist won 21-9, 21-19 against world No 23 Fitriani Fitriani in the women's singles in 42 minutes.

Ashwini and N. Sikki Reddy, ranked No 28, completed the rout by winning the fourth point in their 21-12, 21-19 upset win over world No 15 Della Destiara Haris-Rosyita Eka Putri Sari in the women's doubles - the final match of the tie.
