Indonesia knocked out of Sudirman Cup despite 3-2 win over Denmark
Defending champions China remained the hot favourites to win the Sudirman Cup for the 11th time and will face India in the quarter-finals in Gold Coast, Australia on Friday.
India edged out Indonesia from Group 1D despite the Indonesians defeating Denmark 3-2 in their final group match on Wednesday. All three teams in the group - Denmark, India and Indonesia finished the group stage with one win each.
However, Denmark topped the group based on the number of matches won and lost in the group. The Danes finished with a 6-4 tally while India's was 5-5 and Indonesia ended with 4-6 figures to finish at the bottom.
This is only the second time in the Sudirman Cup history that India have reached the knockout stage. The first was in 2011 where the Indians lost 1-3 to China in the quarter-finals.
By the luck of the draw Malaysia and Japan will clash again in the quarter-finals. In their final Group 1C match on Wednesday the Japanese edged Malaysia 3-2 to top the group. Thus Malaysia get a chance for a quick revenge against Japan on Friday.
The winners of the Japan-Malaysia quarter-finals will play the winners of the China versus India in the semi-finals.
In the first quarter-finals on Thursday the Koreans will face Chinese Taipei while Thailand will take on Denmark. The winners will face each other in the semi-finals.
