Fourteen-time winners and defending champions China gave a dominant performance as they began their Uber Cup title defence with a 5-0 whitewash of France in their opening Group D match at Impact Arena, Bangkok, Thailand on Monday.

China, who have won the Uber Cup 14-times and have won the last three editions, gave strong signals that they are in no mood to surrender the silverware.

The Chinese are expected to battle Indonesia in Group D for a top two place in the group after the Indonesians enhanced their quarter-final hopes with a nail-biting 3-2 win over Malaysia in another Group D match also on Monday.

China, who have brought back their former star Li Xuerui to the team after the player recovered from a long-term injury, is seeded second behind Japan in this year's Uber Cup.

He Bingjiaogot her team in the mood with a 21-14, 21-13 win over Yaelle Hoyaux in the first singles.

In the first doubles, Huang Dongping-Yu Zheng scored a 21-19, 21-9 victory over Emilie Lefel-Anne Tran before Gao Fangjie stretched China's lead to 3-0 after taking down Marie Batomene 21-8, 21-10 in the second singles.

Li Xuerui completed the easy win when she defeated Katia Normand 21-9, 21-13 in the third singles. Earlier China's second doubles Huang Yaqiong-Tang Jinhua won their match against Delphine Delrue-Lea Pulermo 21-8, 21-14.

Indonesia lost the first point when Fitriani Fitriani was beaten 21-10, 17-21, 14-21 by Soniia Cheah in the first singles.

Malaysia, however, failed to capitalize on Soniia's morale-boosting win and lost the first doubles to Greysia Polii-Apriyani Rahayu, who defeated the scratch pair of Goh Yea Ching-Lee Meng Yean 21-13, 21-14.

Indonesia moved to a 2-1 lead when Gregoria Mariska Tunjung won the second singles against Goh Jin Wei 22-20, 21-16.

Indonesia also took the second doubles through their world No 11 Della Destiara Haris-Rizki Amelia Pradipta craving out a 24-22, 20-22, 21-12 win over Chow Mei Kuan-Vivian Hoo after a marathon 79 minutes for an unassailable 3-1 lead.

Malaysia narrowed the deficit to 3-2 when S. Kisona fought a three-game battle to prevail 21-23, 23-21, 21-13 over Ruselli Hartawan in the last match of the tie, which was the third singles.
