Malaysia outclass Germany 5-0 to advance to the quarter-finals in Sudirman Cup
Former junior world champion Goh Jin Wei made a winning debut in the Sudirman Cup mixed team championships as Malaysia tore Germany apart with a thumping 5-0 win in a Group 1C match at the Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium in Gold Coast, Australia on Tuesday.
The defeat sent the Germans out of the competition as Malaysia advanced to the quarter-finals. Japan, who beat Germany 4-1 in their opening match on Sunday, will face Malaysia on Wednesday to decide the group champions.
Only the top two teams in their respective group will advance to the knockout stage of the competition.
Jin Wei won Malaysia's fourth point with a straight sets 21-10, 21-13 win over Fabienne Deprez after Malaysia won the first three ties with ease - in the mixed doubles through Tan Kian Peng-Lai Pei Jing, the men's singles through world No 1 Lee Chong Wei and the men's doubles through Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong.
Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei completed the rout by taking the women's doubles in the final tie as Malaysia gained revenge over the Germans who beat them 3-2 in the 2013 edition played in Kuala Lumpur.
Kian Meng-Pei Jing defeated Mark Lamsfuss-Isable Herttrich 21-17, 21-13 for the first point before Chong Wei ripped Fabian Roth 21-12, 21-11 in 34 minutes for Malaysia's second point.
V Shem-Wee Kiong, the former world No 1 and Rio Olympics silver medal winners beat Jones Ralfy Jansen-Josche Zurwonne 21-16, 21-19 for Malaysia's third point
Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei strolled to a 21-12, 21-11 victory over Johanna Goliszewski-Isabel Herttrich in the women's doubles for Malaysia dominance over the Germans.
