Badminton Asia, Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) and Kedah Badminton Association (KBA) had embarked on another milestone with the tripartite signing of the agreement to host the Badminton Asia Team Championships 2018 from 6th to 11th February in Alor Setar, Kedah.

The signing ceremony was held at Sime Darby Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur today (29th September 2017 - Friday), attended by top representatives from all the signing parties. Badminton Asia is represented by its President, Mr. Anton Aditya Subowo and Secretary General, Dr. Kim Hong-Ki, Greg, while BAM is represented by its President and Honourary Secretary, YH. Dato' Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria and YBhg. Datuk Ng Chin Chai respectively. YBhg. Dato' Teoh Teng Chor, the President and Honourary Secretary, Mr. Goh Yen Yen signed on behalf of KBA.

The cooperation between Badminton Asia and BAM is not something new as Malaysia had been hosting various of our events previously, namely, the Badminton Asia Championships and Badminton Asia Junior Championships. This time around, KBA took up the challenge by offering the venue for the Asia's premier team event.

BAM and KBA had the history of hosting various international and world badminton events thus giving Badminton Asia the confidence in having the Badminton Asia Team Championships in Alor Setar. This was echoed in the speech by Mr. Anton Aditya Subowo saying that, "BAM is chosen not only to the great tradition of Badminton in Malaysia but also the fantastic following in this country, and Alor Setar was selected due to their previous success in hosting the World Junior Championships not only once but twice in 2009 and 2014, international Grand Prix, and various other international events".

This signing ceremony is not only about the cooperation to host a tournament but it is the reflection of dedication to strengthen our relationship with BAM and to work closely with one another for more future programme and commitments,  and growing together for the betterment of the sport in Asia.

The Badminton Asia Team Championships is also the Asian Continental Qualifying event for the Thomas and Uber Cups Finals scheduled to be held in Bangkok, Thailand in May 2018.
