Thailand's number one shuttler Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk is out of the his home tournament in the men's singles but it was smooth sailing for Ratchanok Intanon in the women's singles in the USD120,000 Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold in Bangkokon Friday.

Tanongsak, the top seed, was chopped down by compatriot Pannawit Thongnuam in the quarter-final when he lost in three sets with the latter prevailing 21-17, 17-21, 21-8 to advance to the last four.

Pannawit, will now be fired up to face third seed B. Sai Praneeth in Saturday's semi-finals. The other semi-final will be between Malaysian youngster Soong Joo Ven who came out tops against Hong Kong Lee Cheuk Yiu 21-19, 21-11.

However, it was plain sailing for the top two seeds in the women's singles - Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon and second seed Saina Nehwal of India - as the duo stayed on track for a place in Sunday's final.

Former world champion Ratchanok carried too much weight against compatriot Natchaon Jindapol for a 21-13, 21-15 win to advance to the last four where she will play China-born Zhang Beiwei who now dons United States' colours.

Second seeded Saina gunned down Japan's Haruko Suzuki 21-15, 22-20, 21-11. The Indian Olympian will take on another Thai hopeful Busanan Ongbamrungphan in the last four. Busanan defeated teammate Pattarasuda Chaiwan 21-16, 21-12.

Thailand's top seeds in the mixed doubles Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai, ranked No 9, will face Malaysia's Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie in the semi-finals on Saturday.
