The scoreline looks flattering for their 4-1 win over India but it was Denmark's experience that pulled them through in their opening Group 1D match in the Sudirman Cup Mixed Team Championships at the Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium in Gold Coast, Australia on Monday.

India were 3-0 down after the completion of the first three ties - the mixed doubles, the men's singles and the men's doubles before P.V. Sindhu narrowed the deficit in the women's singles. Denmark wrapped up the tie by taking the women's doubles as well.

In the mixed doubles it was a 70-minute before Denmark's seasoned campaigners Joachim Fischer Nielsen-Christinna Pedersen, winners of the bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics, overcame Ashwinin Ponnappa-Satwiksairaj Rankireddy 21-15, 16-21, 21-17 for the first point.

Denmark were 2-0 up when Rio Olympics bronze medallist Viktor Axelsen exacted sweet revenge over World No 13 Ajay Jayaram for his defeat in the Malaysia Open in Kuching in April with a 21-12, 21-7 win in 27 minutes.

The Danes made it 3-0 when Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen came off 21-17, 21-15 winners over Rio Olympians Manu Attri-B. Sumeeth Reddy in 33 minutes.

India's Rio Olympics silver medallist P. V. Sindhu pulled one back for her team when she romped to an easy 21-18, 21-6 win over Line Kjaersfeldt in the women's singles. But that was as far as India could go against the Indians.

Ashwini-N. Sikki Reddy gave a good account of themselves in the final tie - the women's doubles. However, they could not stop the experienced Danish pair of Kamilla Rytter Juhl-Christinna Pedersen, the Rio Olympics silver medal winners from registering a 18-21, 21-15, 23-21 win in 66 minutes.

The other team in Group 1D is Indonesia. The top two teams in their group will advance to the quarter-finals.
