It was a disastrous day for Thailand in the men's and women's singles quarter-finals in the SCG Badminton Asia Junior Championships at the BCP Badminton and Sports Science Training Center in Bangkok on Friday.

The hosts had Kantaphon Wangcharoen(picture above) as the stop seed in the men's singles and Pornpawee Chochuwong as the top seed in the women's singles.

However, Pornpawee quit midway in the second set against China's seventh seeded Gao Fangjie after 20 minutes with a thigh injury. The Chinese won the first set 21-9 and was leading 7-1 when the Thai lass threw in the towel.

Kantaphon could not stop China's eighth seed Sun Feixiang from winning 21-16, 21-18 in 47 minutes. There was still hope for Thailand in the men's singles but, however, sixth seed Korakrit Laotrakul could garner the little extra when it mattered and allowed India's Lakshya Sen to advance with a 16-21, 21-12, 21-19 win after a 69 minute battle.

Thailand's last hope disappeared in the men's singles when fifth seed Pachaarapol Nipornram was defeated 20-22, 11-21 by China's Liu Haichao.

After Pornpawee's exit in the women's singles it was left to Pattarasuda Chaiwan to shoulder the burden she could only offer token resistance to China's No 3 seed Chen Yufei who won 21-9, 21-13 in 29 minutes.

Thailand, however, will have a pair in the semi-finals in the women's doubles when Ruethaichanok Laisuan-Alisa Sapniti defeated Japan's Natsumi Oda-Natsuki One 21-13, 19-21, 21-18.

Meanwhile, Malaysia's junior world champion Goh Jin Wei (picture above) also failed to advance to the semi-finals. The Malaysian hope was beaten by Korea's Kim Ga-eun 21-13, 17-21, 21-13 in 57 minutes.

Also in the semi-finals is Indonesia's fourth Gregoria Mariska. The Indonesian defeated Japan's fifth seed Natsuki Nidaira (picture above) 19-21, 24-22, 21-19.
