Top seed Jen Hao to face Chun Seang in quarter-finals in Taiwan Open

Local favourite and top seed Hsu Jen Hao gave Taiwan supporters plenty to cheer when he earned a quarter-final clash against Malaysia's former international Tan Chun Seang in the Taipei Masters Grand Prix at the Hsing Chuang Gymnasium in Taipei on Thursday.


The 25-year-old Jen Hao carved out a straight set 11-9, 11-9, 11-6 win in 32 minutes over compatriot Teng Shih Hua under the Badminton World Federation's (BWF) new scoring system - the 11-point best-of-five system.


Chun Seang knocked out another homester in the second round - defeating Shih Kuei Chun with a come-from-behind 9-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-9 win in 34 minutes.


Japan's third seed Kanta Tsuneyama was a second round casualty against Taiwan's Hsueh Hsuan Yi. The Taiwanese beat Tsuneyama 11-8, 11-13, 11-5, 8-11, 11-4 in a match which lasted 49 minutes.
It will be an all-Taiwan quarter-final clash between Hsuan Yi against Lin Yu Hsien. The fifth seeded Yu Hsien beat Thailand's Suppanya Avihingsanon 9-11, 11-8, 15-13, 11-2 in the second round.


Malaysian professional Daren Liew also reached the quarter-finals with a 11-9, 9-11, 11-9, 11-7 win over Thailand's Adulrach Namkul. India's Sourabh Varma outplayed Japan's Ryotaro Maruo 11-6, 11-8, 11-6 to move into the quarters against Japan's Kento Horiuchi who won 12-10, 11-8, 9-11, 11-6 against teammate Kodai Naraoka.


In the women's singles Tee Jing Yi of Malaysia, the No 2 seed, was a straight 11-9, 15-14, 11-3 winner over Singapore's Yeo Jia Min. For a place in the semi-finals the Malaysian No 1 will face Thailand's Pornpawee Chochuwong.


The Thai lass reached the quarter-finals with a 11-7, 13-11, 11-6 win over Hong Kong's Cheung Ying Mei. Other second round winners were third seed Ayumi Mine of Japan who beat Taiwan's Yu Chieh Hun 11-3, 11-6, 11-8 and Indonesia's No 6 seed Hana Ramadhini who outplayed compatriot Ruselli Hartwan 11-9, 11-4, 11-8.


However, the match of the day was in the mixed doubles between two Taiwan pairs. The 42 minute match saw unseeded Wang Chi-lin-Cheng Chi Y who came back from the brink of defeat to stun No 2 seeds Liao Min Chun-Chen Hsiao Huan 10-12, 6-11, 15-14, 11-8, 11-7.


The winners will now meet Japan's Ryota Taohata-Koharu Yonemoto for a place in the semi-finals. The Japanese beat Hong Kong's Mak Hee Chun-Yeung Nga Ting 9-11, 11-5, 12-1, 11-3.
