Tzu Ying, Japanese girls celebrate as Asian players dominate

JAKARTA: Unseeded Tai  Tzu Ying from Chinese Taipei continued her giant-slaying act here when she outplayed the fourth-ranked Wang Yihan 21-17, 21-8 in the final of the Indonesian Open Superseries Premier today.

In the run-up to the fnal, the fast-attacking Tzu Ying defeated Li Xuerui (No.3), Nozomi Okuhara (No.5) and Wang Shixian (No.6). Today, Wang Yihan, a semifinalist here last year, also failed to stop Tzu Ying who took just 30 minutes to seal her victory.

Wang Yihan, who had defeated world No.1 Carolina Marin en route to the final, simply had no reply to Tzu Ying's aggressive play today. This was especially evident in the second set.

Tzu Ying, playing in the last of the five finals today, completed a rout by the Asian players who dominated the Indonesian Open. The success of the Asian players provides hope of an equally solid performance in the forthcoming Olympics.

In the women's doubles, world No.1 and topseeds Misaki Matsumoto-Ayaki Takahashi threw everything they had into the final to put down a massive challenge from China's Tang Yuanting and Yu Yang, to claim the Indonesian Open Superseries Premier title  today,

After taking the first, Misaki-Ayaki were stunned by a tremendous come back from their opponents who whipped them 21-8. The Japanese would later explain that the wind disrupted their game. Akashi said: "We were in control in the first but the next set was made difficult by the wind.

Misaki added: "We made use of what we learnt in the second to improve in the decider. This is our fourth title this year, three of them were Superseries victories.

She also thanked the fans at the stadium. "We thank them for their amazing support." The Japanese girls won 21-15, 8-21, 21-15.

In the mixed doubles, fifth seeds Xu Chen and Ma Jin retained their Indonesian Open crown when they defeated Korean pair, Ko Sung Hyun-Hyun-Kim Ha Na 21-15, 16-21, 21-13.
