BEST OF ASIA'S JUNIORS: JUSTIN HOH (MALAYSIA)
The young player form Malaysia is only 16, but is already ranked World #5 in BWF’s Junior Ranking and has 102 careers wins for both men’s singles and men’s doubles. With these achievements, he is on his way to becoming the one of the Best of Asia’s Juniors!
In his very early days of his career, in 2017 he participated in the YONEX KOREA JUNIOR BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS, where he competed in both the singles and doubles category. In the singles category, he reached the R32 but lost to Korean player Bo Yoon. He did even better in the men’s doubles, reaching the semifinals with his partner M FAZRIQ Mohamad Razif.
In 2018 he showed even greater growth. At the PEMBANGUNAN JAYA RAYA JUNIOR GRAND PRIX 2018, he reached the finals in both singles and men’s doubles, only losing to Indian player Pranav Rao GANDHAM in the singles and Pranav Rao GANDHAM/Sai Vishnu PULLELA in the doubles. At the VICTOR EXIST JAKARTA OPEN JUNIOR INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018, he finally found the podium when he won Gold at both events. In the singles, he beat compatriot M FAZRIQ Mohamad Razif for the medal, and the two of them then beat Indonesian rivals Zaidan Arrafi NABAWI/Deandra Ikhsan GUNAWAN for gold in the doubles.
Justin and Fazriq saw success again at the BADMINTON ASIA JUNIOR U17 & U15 CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018 as they won the championship. Justin also competed in the singles event, but made it only to the semifinals. To end the successful year, he bagged another gold at the SINGAPORE YOUTH INTERNATIONAL SERIES 2018 with Fazriq, defeating their Singaporean rivals.
2019 was also a successful year for him. At the beginning of the year, he reached the finals of the PEMBANGUNAN JAYA RAYA JUNIOR GRAND PRIX 2019, and also participated in the VICTOR EXIST JAKARTA JUNIOR INTERNATIONAL SERIES. He also reached the finals at the CELCOM AXIATA MALAYSIA JUNIOR INTERNATIONAL CHALLENGE 2019 with Fazriq, but was defeated by their Malaysian compatriots. By October of the year, he reached the semis for both singles and doubles at the WONCHEON YONEX KOREA JUNIOR OPEN INTERNATIONAL CHALLENGE 2019.
He finally won another title at the BADMINTON ASIA U17 & U15 JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS 2019 after defeating Hong Kong’s Jason Gunawan in Indonesia. He beat his opponent 21-17 12-21 21-12 to be crowned U-17 Champion. He ended the year with another title at the men’s doubles category at the YONEX - SUNRISE BANGLADESH JUNIOR INTERNATIONAL SERIES 2019. In 2020, there weren’t many tournaments due to the pandemic, but he managed to reach the semifinals of the YONEX GERMAN JUNIOR 2020.
We’re hoping to see more of Justin this year! We hope that he finds even greater success this coming year and the many years ahead.
