It was a day of surprises in the women's doubles semi-finals in the Pembangunan Jaya Raya Badminton Asia Juniors Championships at the Jaya Raya Sports Hall in Bintaro, Jakarta on Saturday.

Indonesia's fourth seeds Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma-Ribka Sugiarto gave the boisterous home fans plenty to cheer when the staged a stunning performance to upstage China's top seeds and last year's silver medallists Liu Xuanxuan-Xia Yuting in a three-game encounter which lasted 65 minutes with a 25-23, 14-21, 21-15 win.

Malaysia's Pearly Tan Koong Le-Toh Ee Wei were equally impressive to book a place in Sunday's final. The third-seeded Malaysians played a game of confidence to beat Indonesia's second seeds Agatha Imanuela-Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti 21-15, 23-21.

Their "confidence" was displayed when they checked the Indonesians' late fightback and held out for a win despite the vociferous home fans.

The Malaysians, the Dutch Open champions, was knocked out in the quarter-finals at the same venue last year.

Coach Amelia Alicia Anscelly described the march into the final as one of "confidence and coolness" and believes the pair has an even chance of winning the title this time.

"They have been playing well here. They are confident in their game," said Amelia, a 2015 SEA Games gold medallist in the women' doubles.

"We will fight all the way and win the title this year," said Pearly and Ee Wei after their win.
