It was not a good day for some of the top seeds in the Badminton Asia Regional (Central Asia) Under-15 and Under-13 Championships in Uralsk, Kazakhstan on Saturday.

In the Under-15 women singles, second seed Valeria Kim was bundled out of contention by unseeded Yeva Butpayeva 21-9, 21-17 in 16 minutes in a second-round match to march into the quarter-finals. For a place in the semi-final, Yeva will face Dilyava Dzhumadilova.

However, it was plain sailing for the top seed and favorite Daria Moiseenko who completed her second round tie with a comfortable 21-8, 21-1 win over Kseniya Alekseeva and will meet Dilnara Baktigaliyeva, who was taken the distance before snatching a 21-17, 19-21, 21-19 win in 40 minutes, in the quarter-finals.

Third seed Nargiza Rakhmetullayeva also gave Kazakhstan plenty to cheer with a place in the last eight. Nargiza swept past Aidana Kapasheva 21-7, 21-1 in 13 minutes and next plays Aruzhan Algaziyeva - 21-13, 21-4 winner over Aleksandra Palasheva.

Battling for a place in the semi-finals is fourth seed Darya Chotonova who prevailed 21-14, 21-14 against Anastasia Bushaeva in another all-Kazakhstan match. Darya's net opponent is compatriot Alina Ermolenko who eased past Barno Kosimjanova 21-6, 21-8.

There were also upsets in the Under-13 mixed doubles with Daniyar Shalabaeva-Angelina Savchuk pulling off a stunning 21-7, 21-6 win over favorites and top seeds Damir Batkayev-Aigerim Yessanah.

Third seeds Roman Muratov-Elianora Kishkinova also fell by the wayside after a three-game battle against unseeded Dimitriy Kharlamov-Kamila Kuzeeva 19-21, 21-9, 19-2.
