Tzu Ying too hot to handle for Olympic champion Marin in Thaihot China Open

Taiwan's top woman shuttler Tai Tzu Ying was once again too hot to handle for world No 1 and reigning world and Olympic champion Carolina Marin of Spain in the USD700,000 Thaihot China Open Superseries Premier in Fuzhou.
The Taiwanese fifth seed dumped the top seed and hot favourite in the quarter-finals with a straight sets 21-10, 22-20 win in only 36 minutes. It was Tzu Ying's only second win against the "Shrieking Marin" in five outings.
Incidentally, the world No 5 Tzu Ying's only previous win over the Spaniard was also achieved in the Thaihot China Open in 2014 when she won in straight sets 21-14, 21-17.
The 22-year-old Tzu Ying will now cross paths with China's No 8 seed Sun Yu for a place in Sunday's final. Sun Yu swept through to a 21-19, 21-3 win over another European hope Line Kjaersfeldt of Denmark in 39 minutes.
India's flag is also flying in the women's singles. Rio Olympics silver medallist, seventh seed P.V. Sindhu carved out a 22-20, 21-10 win over China's He Bingjiao - winner of four titles this year - the Swiss Open, the Japan Open, the French Open and the Bitburger Grand Prix Gold.
Sindhu's semi-final opponent is Korean sixth seed Sung Ji-hyun who overcame Japan's Akane Yamaguchi 22-20, 10-21, 21-18 in a 69-minute encounter.
In the men's singles Rio Olympic champion and world No 2 Chen Long of China stayed on course for his fourth title in his home tournament. The second seed displayed his craftiness in his 21-15, 21-14 win over India's Ajay Jayaram.
With the win Chen Long extended his head-to-head lead to 5-0 - winning all his encounters in straight sets.
Chen Long will take on Rio Olympics bronze medal winner Viktor Axelsen of Denmark in the last four. The Dane, ranked No 2 and seeded third in Fuzhou ended Japan's Takuma Ueda's brilliant run with a crushing 21-11, 21-6 win in 30 minutes.
The Japanese, ranked No 52, who was promoted to the main draw from the qualifying rounds following a spate of injuries and withdrawals had scalped Denmark Open winner Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand in the first round and world No 14 Marc Zwiebler of Germany in the second round.
It was another encouraging performance by Malaysia's number two player Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin who dismissed Korean Open winner Qiao Bin of China with a 21-19, 21-7 win.
It is Iskandar's first ever semi-final in a superseries tournament. The No 34 ranked Malaysian next faces fourth seed and world No 4 Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark. Jorgensen ended Tian Houwei's run in the tournament with a 14-21, 21-16, 21-14 win in one hour.
In the men's doubles top seeds Chai Biao-Hong Wei of China came back from a set down to knockout Denmark's Mads Conrad Petersen-Mads Pieler Kolding. The hard hitting Danes could not sustain the momentum after winning the first set 22-20 as the Chinese combo took the next two 21-19, 21-18 in a 72-minute match.
The Chinese pair will play Indonesian seventh seeds Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo who beat Japan's Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi 21-13, 21-17.
Denmark's Mathias Boe (No 4 seeds) will face China's Liu Cheng-Zang Nan in the other semifinal.
Olympic champions Tontowi Ahmad-Liliyana Natsir came through a tough 72-minute match against Koreans Yoo Yeon-seong-Chan Ye-na for a 19-21, 21-14, 21-18 win to reach the semis against another Korean pair Choi Solgyu-Chae Yoo-jung who upset All-England champions and fourth seeds Praveen Jordan 21-15, 21-13.
